Why Therapy Is an Important Part of Self-Care

When people think about therapy, they often imagine someone reaching breaking point before asking for help.

But in reality, therapy can simply be a powerful form of self-care for your mind.

Just as we invest in our physical wellbeing through exercise, massage, or healthy living, our mental and emotional wellbeing deserves the same level of care and attention.

Many of the people who come to see me aren’t in crisis. They are often highly capable individuals who are simply feeling stuck, overwhelmed or tired of battling with their own thoughts.

They may be experiencing:

  • anxiety or constant overthinking
  • low confidence or self-doubt
  • procrastination or lack of motivation
  • emotional eating or coping habits
  • feeling overwhelmed in life or business

Often, these patterns have been running quietly in the background for years.

The good news is that our minds are incredibly adaptable, and these patterns can change.

Understanding How Your Mind Works

Our thoughts, emotions and behaviours are shaped by patterns the brain learns over time.

These patterns are often created as a way to protect us. For example, anxiety can develop when the mind becomes overly focused on potential problems in an attempt to keep us safe.

However, what once served as protection can sometimes become exhausting.

Overthinking.

Constant worry.

A lack of confidence.

These are not signs that something is wrong with you.

They are simply learned responses, and with the right support, they can be updated.

How Hypnotherapy and Mindset Coaching Can Help

In my work, I use The CONTROL System, a modern, practical form of non-trance hypnotherapy.

Unlike traditional hypnosis, you remain fully aware and in control throughout the process. The focus is not on endless analysis, but on helping you understand how your mind works and giving you practical tools to regain control of your thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

Clients often come to me for support with:

  • anxiety and stress
  • panic attacks
  • confidence and self-esteem
  • phobias and fears
  • breaking unwanted habits
  • feeling stuck in life or business

Many clients notice a significant shift within just a few sessions, sometimes even after the first.

Why the Right Therapist Matters

Finding the right therapist is important.

You should always feel safe bringing your thoughts and experiences into a session without worrying that they are “too much” or too complicated.

As a therapist, I am deeply committed to continuous learning and professional development. I work within a supportive network of experienced CONTROL Practitioners and mentors, including professionals from backgrounds such as counselling, hypnotherapy and healthcare.

This collaborative environment allows us to share knowledge and continually refine our work so clients receive the best possible support.

With over 40 years of experience in the health and beauty industry, first as a therapist and educator and now as a mindset coach and hypnotherapist, I have spent my career helping people grow in confidence and reach their full potential.

Taking the First Step

One of the most common things people say before starting therapy is:

“I think something needs to change… but I’m not sure where to start.”

That feeling is often the beginning of positive change.

You don’t need to wait until things feel overwhelming before seeking support. Sometimes the most powerful step is simply starting a conversation.

Book a Free chat

If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed or caught in patterns that no longer serve you, therapy may help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

I offer a free 20-minute friendly chat where we can talk about what’s been going on and explore whether my approach feels right for you.

Sessions are available in person at my clinic in Walderslade, Kent, or online via Zoom.

You can learn more about mindset coaching here.

Sometimes the bravest step is simply deciding that something needs to change.
